As publisher of Hume Studies, the Hume Society (https://www.humesociety.org/about/contact is ultimately responsible for the observance of best practice in the management of Hume Studies, and for supporting editors, reviewers, and authors in performing their ethical duties under these guidelines. In particular, the Hume Society is committed to

•       ensuring that the sole factor governing editorial decisions shall be the mandate of Hume Studies to “publish important original work bearing on the thought of David Hume” that “meets the highest standards of scholarship, and demonstrates mastery of the pertinent secondary literature” (https://www.humesociety.org/ojs/index.php/hs/index)
•       ensuring that, consistently with this mandate, Hume Studies is receptive to work engaging a variety of topics, philosophical, historical, political, economic, and literary, and employing a variety of methods, and approaches
•       ensuring that editorial decisions are not affected by the origins of the manuscript, including the reputation, nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, or religion of the author(s)
•       ensuring that no policies create an exclusionary environment for anyone wanting to engage with the journal
•       ensuring that editorial decisions are free from conflict of interest as defined below
•       ensuring that the review and publication process is open and timely.
