Peer Review

Hume Studies uses double anonymous independent peer review. No review information is published. Submissions are first screened by the editors who may reject manuscripts because they do not fall within the aims and scope of the journal, are unusually long or difficult, or are, in the opinion of both editors, unlikely to be accepted by reviewers. In the case where a paper does not pass initial screening, the editors should communicate their decision within three weeks, except for unusually long or difficult papers. Decisions about manuscripts sent out for peer review are made jointly by the editors, in some cases with the aid of a third anonymous independent peer review. The editors make every effort to get decisions to authors in 8 weeks' time, except for unusually long or difficult papers, or those calling for a third review. Reviewers are asked to judge whether the manuscript is acceptable as is, acceptable after minor revisions, worth reconsideration after major revisions, or unacceptable. Decisions about resubmissions involving minor revisions are made jointly by the editors; those involving major revisions are made jointly by the editors after reassessment by the original reviewers, wherever possible. The editors should reach their decisions within three weeks in the former case and eight weeks in the latter, except in the case of unusually long or difficult manuscripts.

Book reviews are invited and not peer reviewed.
